AIBI - Beginnings to Expansion
Growth of AIBI – 1966 to Present
1966 – American Indian Bible Institute (AIBI) was established in 1966, by a group of Native American men in Los Angeles, CA. These men desired to grow in their own Bible knowledge and walk with Christ. Their ultimate goal was to be more effective at reaching their friends and family for Christ both in the city and on the reservation.
During the following years, AIBI President Duane Anderson developed many Bible training resources that were used both in local AIBI classes as well as mailed to former students around North America.
1999 – In 1999, it was suggested that the manuals be offered on a website so that the staff and former students could quickly access the materials and print their own copies when desired. In the first year of the official AIBI website, AIBI.ORG there were individuals from many different countries and ethnic groups that also downloaded the study materials. This increased usage and subsequent demand of time to respond to inquiries and other correspondence, prompted the AIBI board to establish an outreach called AIBI Resources. This aspect of the ministry was seen as a complement to the Acts 1:8 view of the Bible Institute ministries – an opportunity to reach beyond their Jerusalem and Judea on into their Samaria and to the rest of the world through use of the internet and technology.
2013 – Since the formation of AIBI Resources, use of the AIBI materials has continued to increase. People from over 140 countries have visited the website and CD copies of the website have been shipped to people in over 70 countries. There continues to be requests for on-site training of pastors and Bible teachers in a variety of other countries.
“So then neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything,
but only God who gives the growth.”
1 Corinthians 3:7 (ESV)
Throughout the year of 2000, the board of American Indian Bible Institute (AIBI) saw how God caused growth through the use of its existing Bible training materials to a new global audience through the use of the internet. As this new outreach through the AIBI website () which became known as AIBI Resources continued to grow, individuals from many ethnic groups around the world began using these materials for their own Bible study and training. This expansion complemented the existing Acts 1:8 outreach of AIBI.
The purpose of AIBI is:
To glorify God by developing Godly reproducing leaders and churches
in our Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the end of the earth.
Not only has AIBI been able to reach to their Jerusalem and Judea of Native Americans in urban areas and on reservations, but with the use of the internet, the Lord has allowed them to reach out to their Judea and Samaria and to the rest of the world.
God continues to cause the growth…
“...abundantly beyond all that we ask or think…” Ephesians 3:20 (NASB)
The tools used to meet our goals may include various technologies such as the internet, media recordings, technology based distribution as well as remote and onsite teaching, training and other tools to help God’s servants be more effective for Him.
As the global opportunities continued to grow, the AIBI board expressed a desire to be more effective with both their initial Jerusalem, Judea and this global outreach of AIBI Resources. In February 2013, the board made the decision to research what options were available.
In June 2013, after much prayer and discussion, the AIBI board made the unanimous decision to proceed by authorizing the formation of a new organization. The goals of this expansion are to more effectively equip the existing staff and leadership of AIBI for local ministries as well as to provide a more effective means of expanding opportunities into their Samaria and to the end of the earth. This new organization is called:
In May of 2014, the board of Serve and Equip (S&E) met for the first time to establish its purpose statement which is: ...to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and glorify God by helping develop and equip Godly reproducing Christians and churches through the teaching of God's Word, providing of Bible training resources and serving and assisting Christians to become effective disciple makers in accordance with the teachings in God's Word, the Bible.
This purpose will be fulfilled by equipping Christians and churches around the world with free Bible training resources. This process of equipping Christians lines up with the original goal of AIBI which was taken from
2 Timothy 2:2: “...the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses,
commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” (NKJV)
